Handling returns and RTO
Manage return-to-origin orders, QC checks and fraud flags to protect your margins.
This is a preview draft. Final product behaviour may differ before release.
What is RTO
RTO stands for Return to Origin. It happens when a courier tries to deliver a cash-on-delivery order but the customer refuses, gives a bad address or cannot be reached. The parcel comes back to you and you still pay forward and return charges.
RTO is one of the biggest profit killers in Bangladesh e-commerce. Tracking it accurately is the first step to reducing it.
The RTO queue
When an order is Returned, it enters the RTO queue. Each return gets a reason code such as customer refused, address wrong, phone not reachable or courier delay. The queue shows which parcels are back, which are still in transit and which need a decision.
You can sort the queue by product, area, courier or agent. This quickly shows if one area, product or courier is producing more returns than others.
QC and restocking
Every returned parcel goes through a quality check, or QC. If the product is in sellable condition, it is restocked. If it is damaged, it is logged and disposed or returned to the supplier.
The QC result feeds the inventory count and the RTO analytics. Without QC, your stock numbers will drift and you will not know which products are coming back broken.
Fraud-score and high-return flags
The Confirmation and Fraud Guard module checks each order with a fraud-score. If a customer has many returns or cancels, the system may flag the profile as high risk. High-return customers can be blocked from COD or asked for a confirmation call.
Relationship graphs and duplicate detection also help. If the same person is placing many orders from different numbers, the fraud-score will rise and the operations team can investigate.
Reduce RTO with data
Use the ANA dashboard to track RTO rate by product, area, courier and agent. If one product has a high return rate, review the description and images. If one courier has delivery problems, try another adapter such as Pathao, Steadfast or RedX.
Small changes based on the RTO queue data can improve your confirmation rate, cut courier costs and protect your cash flow.
